Placebo, but not Placebo?

Every day is a school day!

I had done my good deed for the day by donating a sizeable selection of classical and show tune records that had come into my ownership to one of the charity shops that I occasionally find some great donated vinyl in. They had nothing today so after a 20 minute chat in my local record shop I stopped in another charity shop I was passing. I was immediately greeted by the view of an original VGC 12” of ‘The Meaning of Love’ by ‘Depeche Mode’, grab that as it’s one of the few I don’t have, and Nestled behind it was an LP by Placebo.

The album was called ‘Shells’ by a band called ‘Placebo’, but I certainly didn’t recognise it, plus it was released back in 1983. Due to the 1983-esque mobile service in town I was unable to access Discogs or even Spotify. The latter does not even stream it and Discogs list it but there’s not a lot of information just ‘Electronic’ and ‘New Wave’. Clear they no longer exist due to the band of the same name being album to adopt it, well, I’ve never read of any legal wrangling. Worth a punt!

The main members of the band listed on the back of the sleeve are Michelle Wild: voice, and Gary Wild: guitar and synthesiser. I found a couple of blog posts but not a lot. No review or comment as yet from myself as need a few plays to digest it. It will come soon!

The best link I found for information is on Substack which you can link to and read from here –
ON THIS DAY … in 1983 – PLACEBO (no, not that one!)

It mentions another album called ‘England’s Trance’ which is now on the never shrinking list of albums I’m looking for.

These two images below are also from the post I linked to and worth a read. If you want to listen, scroll down, Spotify may not have it but the album is free to enjoy on YouTube.
