The new album from Liam Gallagher and John Squire.
I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it! I want to like it!
I liked Just Another Rainbow, even when he sang ‘Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain (that’s how I still remember the order) although I do smile at that part, it’s a bit ‘cringe’ as the young ones say. Mars to Liverpool I liked a lot, the guitars and vocal sat just right with me and was certainly added to my playlists which is the real judge, do I hit like? do it hit add?
The vinyl arrived this morning, I went for the limited white vinyl pressing obviously, I haven’t looked up how limited, everyone’s selling it? I read ‘indies only white vinyl’ but HMV is also selling it, are they indie now? It looks good and matches the artwork which I think is brilliant! I want the first listen to be this so have avoided streaming the album so far.
I say I want like it, I do. I’ve read some reviews: 5 Stars “Best Oasis album never made” or 5 Stars “People aren’t making music like this anymore!”. The NME gave 4 Stars stating “this is the one we’ve waited for!”, in the same article saying it’s not Definitely Maybe or the Stone Roses but….. Others have been not so favourable. If I go in wanting either Oasis or Stone Roses, I don’t think or expect to find it! I want it to sound a bit different.
Raise your hands sounds like an Oasis track with 2 lumps of optimism thrown in and I like it, that extra Squire noodling coming through. I’m a Wheel, they are certainly getting some late night Blues jam session out of their system. Love you Forever is good! Sticking with a blues feel but with the Liam we know hitting that distinctive tone and drawn out vocal notes. I’m so Bored has that upbeat sound, again like a slightly more optimistic Oasis track, it’s got a bit more pace than the others. Mother Nature’s Song, for a split second I thought I was dropping into Strawberry Fields, it’s a good tune and a chilled end to the album. The tracks I’ve not mentioned all good but to me more album tracks although not fillers, all with a few Beatles and Roses hints here and there. Lyrics from time to time are a bit weak.
It’s a good album and it will be played now and in the future. Definitely a lot on here to like. Is it the best Oasis album never made? No. Is it what I’d expect from these two getting together? Maybe? Is it a 5 Star album? I’d say 3.5 and glad it’s in the collection.
