There is an Oxfam charity shop I pass on occasion that has a ‘New in’ section which is usually full of classical and show tunes, but! also a ‘Newly Donated Dance’ vinyl section, yes I will repeat that a ‘Newly Donated Dance’ vinyl section. This makes me happy!
I was a 90’s raver and had a plethora of mix tapes and compilations but I was not a vinyl junkie then for dance records like some I knew. I didn’t know the names of all the obscure tracks mixed in I went along and danced and had fun with mates at some great clubs. Sometimes waking up in my own bed, sometimes on a local beach watching the sun come up which sounds a lot cooler and romantic than it was, which was a group of mates hanging just needing sleep and dreading the drive home.
But over the years I have collected some great 12 inches, house, techno, happy hardcore and trance and that ‘Newly Donated Dance’ crate has supplied a few.
For the price i’ll pay I take a judge book by its cover approach and fingers crossed when i get home it wont be relegated to the bottom of the unit in the never to be heard again one day to be inherited part of the collection. Yesterdays finds:
- Matthew Dear – Dog Days
- A Man Called Adam – Barefoot in the Head
- Sucker DJs – Lotta Lovin
A good mini vinyl haul, three records I will listen to, it sometimes works, not always, but sometimes.
