Tron, Tron Legacy, Tron Uprising, Tron Ares, it doesn’t matter what word comes after the word Tron, that word alone brings up childhood memories of escapism and wonder.
Sadly or not I am old enough to have seen Tron in the cinema in 1982, yes I was young, in single figures of age and maybe that helped, maybe the fact even then I was a big arcade game fan and the Tron arcade game was awesome, ok the light cycles were 2D from above but I had imagination I was in that game. Just to add I grew up in America where arcade machines were everywhere in the 80s.
Fast forward to 2010 and my love for Tron reignited with Tron Legacy, booked in, went 3D imax and I was a kid again and still love that movie. Yes it was a commercial success, $400 million off a $170 million budget, probably somewhat driven by a Gen X audience hunting nostalgia.
Daft Punk produced a stunning soundtrack which i’m stil kicking myself for not buying the record at the time!! I couldnt imagine anyone else being able to follow that so fingers crossed for the new film but since they split in 2021? – Queue the rumours!
The problem is it’s owned by Disney and they also have a little something called Star Wars and also that behemoth called Marvel which distracts them from this gem. I would have so loved a follow up with Sam and Quora and somehow reassembling Jeff Bridges with a desktop rebuild or software patch but alas not on the cards / bytes?
So 2024 and Tron Ares has finished shooting. I so want to be excited, I have been tracking since a murmur appeared online. So what do we know?

Thats basically it! Jared Leto is playing Ares and its digital to human as opposed to human to digital. It was the obvious next step so interested to see where it goes. But was it the in the Grid part that made it so cool! Yes! If the majority of the film is shot in our world will it have the impact? I hope so!
- Will there be lightcycles?
- Is the red bad as it was with Clu and Rinzler, and the MCP in the original, but there were good programs who were red in 1982?
- Will the story be linked to the past with Sam, Quora, Flynn, Clu and Tron / Rinzler in any way or will it completely stand alone, the web says no?
- Will we still get a good amount of time in the Grid as thats the bit we like?
- Will Daft Punk be involved with the music?
- Jeff Bridges is listed on imdb, what will his part mean?
- How does it sit in the timeline if Jeff Bridges is there?
- Will there be lightcycles?
