Yunglud’s Opus

Some haven’t caught onto Yungblud yet, some never will, some are diehard fans ‘Black Hearts Club’ from a near cult like following, he conjures up controversy and love in nearly everything he does.

A year or so ago he hit heavy rotation in my house a red duck appeared on a shelf (look that up), vinyl arrived along with a signed inward looking burn book, he had arrived and was thrust upon me culminating in Bludfest last year which I have to admit was a great day out.

Yesterday his new track ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’ was released and as the title of this article states it’s an opus, it’s a “Hello, I’m BACK! What a return, he is inviting people to listen in his own way.

Hello, are you out there?
Are you trying? Are you patient?
Are you blind?
Are you with me? Against me?
Don’t know me at all
?

The first three minutes is what I would expect to hear and I can just hear the reaction from some “ he just says ‘hello’ over and over, well it’s far more nuanced than that, he build a backing track through lyrics alongside that Yungblud sound “hello are you in there, do you still remember, or have you forgotten where your from, are you still scared of dying, scared of finding out that you don’t know who you are?” Talking to to his existing fans the way he always has with words of hope “tell me do you want to feel alive”.

Then at three minutes hysteria kick in, I bet he has Joe Elliot and Def Leppard sat up smiling as he hits full stadium rock mode. Is this the shift in things to come? He stops singing to the audience and starts a personal lyrical monologue accompanied by this shift in sound and musical approach with overlayed lifting backing vocals and ascending riffs, even a rare outing these days of a guitar solo. It’s dare I say nostalgic, new, and great.

At seven minutes he shifts again to a semi-acoustic atmosphere sound, still with a personal monologue to finish off with. He’s taking on a journey, he’s saying I’m back and this is what came, this is where we are now and it will be ok.

Listen below, if you haven’t heard it yet then do so, if it’s still not your cup of tea thats cool as there’s a lot of good music around right now for everyone. Personally, I’m looking forward to the new album on the back of this rock anthem, no second album to be found here and I think Bludfest is a must again.
