Lola Young More Than a Flicker of Brilliance

The British singer and songwriter from London took to the stage at 9pm in front of a sold out crowd to a raucous applause to deliver and hour of soulful alternative indie treats that pretty much all in attendance sang word for word.

After ‘Good Books’ she paused and gave a heartfelt speech to her grandad and read a poem he had given her along with a present of flour with an inside joke. It was emotional and beautiful, she did remark on the irony of the next song being ‘Wish You Were Dead’.

This gig was originally scheduled for December 3rd 2024 but was cancelled, this actually played to my diary as tickets bought I was going to miss it so thank you and it was worth the delay. The crowd was in great spirits and added to the overall experience, an eclectic group but also one of the most relaxed audiences I’ve witnessed for a long time. I was just a great nightLola delivered, her confidence on stage and that voice, she does not hold back you feel every word is meant. She owned that stage with a subtlety of presence and the band around her are perfectly in tune with her as an artist.

Lola Young may have gained international popularity through Tik Tok, but it’s that voice and those songs that will keep her there.
