Interrobang‽

Interrobang‽, an agitprop post-punk band formed in 2012 by ex-Chumbawamba lead singer Dunstan Bruce along with ex-Chumbawamba drummer Harry Hamer and ex-Regular Fries guitarist Stephen Griffin.

‘The interrobang is a combination of the question mark and the exclamation point, and is used to convey an excited question.’

‘The interrobang is a printed punctuation mark (‽), available only in some typefaces, designed to combine the question mark (?) and the exclamation point (!), indicating a mixture of query and interjection, as after a rhetorical question.’

The online write up says post-punk and it sums Interrobang up perfectly. It was the most punk show I’ve seen for a while but it’s more than that, it’s raw but and sounds anti-establishment yet also sounds commercially cool!

Put simply I bloody well enjoyed it. I saw Chumbawamba more times than I can remember at The Pirate in Falmouth in the mid to late nineties and always remember a good night.

We heard voices, they were behind us, Dunstan Bruce and Stephen Griffen were in the crowd with megaphones, they walked and talked through the crowd finishing up on stage.

Perfectly chosen for the night, complimenting PWEi well. Looking dapper in grey suits, Dunstans finished off with a pair of Doctor Martens. They went through the setlist with style, one minute quoting a letter to a dead father then singing it, the next minute preaching proverbs and beliefs then reminiscing then singing in his own unmistakable way. It felt like a real privilege to witness this performance in the flesh so to speak.

To put it into context, a lady behind me said she didn’t know what to expect but in her words “I loved that, now I feel like I’ve had dinner, now time for dessert.” Obviously referring to PWEI as the latter. The applause spoke volumes.

An unforgettable performance. It felt anti-establishment in a 2024 way from someone who’d been on the front lines of trying to influence change, it didn’t feel like Chumbawamba it felt new, well done guys your fan base grew tonight.
