Sunday, Monday, whatever the day, when these guys come to town you can but smile, and yes I going to say it, be happy!
Shaun Ryder is his usual calm self, often hidden from view by Bez walking the stage with Rowetta dazzling in silver. She took to the stage from the off, her voice filling the old opera house venue, it was on. The dulcet tones of Ryder who was visible stood by the door to the backstage area, he took his time appearing but when he did alongside his best mate Bez the roof lifted.
Wearing blue jeans, white trainers and an Adidas Mack he joked at what song was next with a bit of Bez banter between each track before delivering the way Shaun Ryder does. Rowetta joining him for some, not all, but what a voice, dressed in a silver shimmer, long leopard print boots and a Madchester Rave-On over shirt, and a big smile. Bez in a Man Parrish T-shirt, what looked like snake skin patterned long loose shorts and white socks and trainers never stopped.
The songs just kept on coming, Bez kept dancing, the crowd kept bouncing and singing, it was a proper good night out. This band is made to play live, I’ve seen them before and I’ve seen Ryder with Black Grape, always a great night out. Long live the Happy Mondays.
