Playing to a sold out crowd at The Joiners, a small independent venue with a capacity of 200, with this style of music, means literally shaking the foundations of the buildings either side with every song. A setlist of structural threat! Seriously though the audience literally made the ground move, that sprung floor, well I hope it’s sprung as it was moving like it was, earned its keep and then some tonight.
Between You and Me is Jake Wilson, Chris Bowerman, Jai Gibson, James Karagiozis and Jamey Bowerman, all from Melbourne Australia. Bold, brash, Aussies that were enjoying being on the road connecting with fans, and fans there were in the droves!
They have been active since 2016 but I somehow only came across them via the Joiners listings back in November 2023 and on first listen, instantly bought tickets. The poster, and the quickly found and followed social media that accompanies the band well as it should.
It’s pop-punk at its finest. Great vocals, great musicians, great music. Jake Wilson smashes through song after song with not just his voice but his entire body accompanied by just the right amount of cheeky banter. James Karagiozis on bass is a feature on stage not just through his presence but his actions. Playing bass, adding backing vocals, stage diving while playing, even taking over vocals for the second to last track, climbing down to take the centre of the mosh pit, baiting the crowd to slam in to which they obliged. Bass for that song being temporarily taken over by Gabe Pietrafesa from Young Culture. The other three members certainly not quiet, their instruments doing their talking.
It was loud and proud it was big mosh pits and due to an Air-Con malfunction at the venue ….. HOT!
No complaints here, from the opening track of their set ‘Dakota’ they had the audience in the palm of their hands which is where they wanted to be, all in full voice, the crowd knew the words, they were there to see a band they know and love and I can see why, and now I do to!
