Cast, Power the Engine Rooms

I’m sure it was just pure coincidence the Cast played in Southampton the same day that Southampton played Everton at home. There were certainly a lot of Liverpool accents at the gig although John Power is reportedly a passionate Liverpool fan so I very much doubt it.

The band took to the stage to a rapturous applause and cheer, they went straight into ‘Sandstorm’ and the crowd didn’t stop singing, bouncing, pointing and raising drinks in the air until the very end of the gig, it was hot at the Engine Rooms, it was buzzing!

The saying goes “find a job you love you’ll never work a day in your life” has John Powers name written all over it. It would be hard to find a guitarist, a frontman, who enjoys being on stage as much as he obviously does.

Following ‘Sandstorm’ with ‘Fine Time’, there first single only lifted the crowd more then just a belter of a set culminating with ‘Alright’. John Power is just a master of upbeat pop/rock songs that connect perfectly with all who listen.

Seven albums and twenty singles later they are still sound as good and relevant as they did back in 1995 when the first single was released. Just an awesome gig start to finish!

Support came from Wigan based band ‘Stanleys’, an inspired choice to support cast, their sound and tempo complimented the headliners. A thirty minute slot with some great songs that deserved to be on the bill. A shout of “show us your pies” from the crowd brought a laugh from band.
