So I had a free night in London on a work trip and it was obvious what needed to happen, a quick tube ride to Camden and down to the Dublin Castle for some live music.
I arrived and got a drink, took a seat and it wasn’t long before I was in conversation with other visitors. If you’ve never been, there are double doors at the back into a room with a stage, sound desk and a bar with a few seats.
I heard some music when the doors opened briefly, stuck my head in to see the band ‘Ramona Marx’ warming up, sounded great, it’s going to be a good night ahead. There was a singer on before them but I got distracted as the band ‘Travis’ came in for a pint.
Ramona Marx fired up about thirty minutes later and quickly became a band I want to see again. Punk-esque vocals from all members with singing switching throughout the set, thumping drum and well drilled guitar playing from all three, that was until the lead singer said he’d had enough of playing guitar for the evening, put his guitar down, leaning it against the front of the stage and just continued singing, a proper punk vibe, loved it. It would be great to see them in a packed venue with a big crowd.
From Punk to Chill
Next up was The Deya Collective, polar opposites to Ramona Marx, this was R&B this was chilled rap, a nice relaxed set that I’m glad I got to see. Switching between singers with great backing musicians. Not a lot about them online but a guitar and drummer with a main vocalist but others joingin in for songs and co-signing songs.
The Dublin Castle is a great space to see live music, intimate and comes with great history although a bit quieter on this night due to it being a Sunday.
