You may or not be following this, I only started when the email prompts started coming in which was not at the beginning but now, i’m invested in the outcome. Nothing hinges on it, it’s not going to change anything in the music industry or the wider chasm of culture or life, cure famine, bring peace and love to all, but from a simple curiosity point of view, I now want to know.
The first thing I do when I see this is get my cynical head on and think yeah, yeah, who are they to say what the best albums sre but then ………
From left to right: Ebro Darden, Maggie Rogers, Zane Lowe, and Nile Rodgers discuss the top 10 albums in a special roundtable that will broadcast globally on Apple Music on Wednesday, May 22.
Cant argue with that!

An interseting list and obviously for us outsiders looking in, very subjective, heres a few of my highlights.
NWA , Straight Outta Compton is not the hightest Rap album with Jay-Z at 13 and Dr Dre himself at 19 with The Chronic. Good to see The Smith in the Top 100 and Oasis (Whats the Story) Morning Glory? at 58, no sign of Definitely Maybe yet? Will it be Top 10?
Prince only featuring once at 51 and very pleased to see Pauls Boutique breaking the Top 50. The Clash at 35, does that suggest Never Mind the Bollocks by The Sex Pistols could be Top 10?
No 28 for Pink Floyd is deserved, should they be higher? Its a tough list and The Beach Boys with Pet Sounds one Higher than Revolver by The Beatles? Is Abbey Road Top 10?
No Arguments here, Radiohead was the only band I saw listed twice with Kid A also listed at No.33.
I’m looking forward to the Top 10, if you read between the lines and look at what’s not there you can almost guess a few and I will post up the 10 in a follow up later. (Revealed on May 22 and now added)
So my thoughts for what could be in the Top 10 and in no particular order.
- The Beatles – Abbey Road
- Sex Pistols – Never Mind the Bollocks
- Oasis – Definitely Maybe
- Radiohead – The Bends
- Depeche Mode – Violator
- Nirvana – Nevermind
- Prince – Purple Rain
- Michael Jackson – Thriller
- Talk Talk – The Colour and the Shape
- Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here
Top 10 Revealed
How far off was I?
- The Beatles – Abbey Road
- Nirvana – Nevermind
- Prince – Purple Rain
- Michael Jackson – Thriller
4 out of 10 isn’t bad, The others would not be my choice but it’s all subjective.
