Top 8 – March 2024 – What’s Coming?

Pixies Live at the BBC

Put another way, what Vinyl will be in my basket?

I always look ahead to see what Vinyl releases are imminent, I don’t have a direct link to any sources specifically telling me what is on the horizon so like everyone else I search sites to find out. There is nothing here you cannot find elsewhere, just the ones i’m looking forward to or think are/would be good. This also heavily influences my Spotify playlist for the foreseeable future. I like the number 8, so Top 8, it is even and by design semetrical and these are in no particular order. The text is taken from the record company information. There is a lot of great music coming!

The Dead Flowers Reject

Pixies Live at the BBC

1988 – 91 – This is being released on March 8th. Being pressed for the first time on vinyl. Pixies recorded six sessions for the BBC, five for John Peel and one for Mark Goodier. The setlist is something to behold and i know i’ll be writing an entire post about this soon. The name of this blog comes from a Pixies track.

Interplay, Ride

Ride’s forthcoming seventh album, the third since their 2015 reunion. The sound of the group connecting all the dots, taking the frenzied guitar attacks, hypnotic grooves and dreamy melodic hooks of their early work and setting it to a more expansive sonic template. Id buy it just based on that write up.

The Dead Flowers Reject

The alter-ego to Six, recorded at the same time as an alternative, less jaggedly eccentric selection of songs should the label reject the other. Mansun frontman & songwriter Paul Draper described the album as the fourth Mansun album (thats a good thing). Originaly Released Aug 2020. I bought it then on white Vinyl.

Kid Kapichi

Produced by Dom Craik (from UK chart-toppers Nothing But Thieves), There Goes The Neighbourhood is the third studio album. Eleven tracks about misspent youth and nights out in small towns, songs you can protest or party to in equal measure. Saw these guys back Nothing but Thieves last year highly recommend.

Liam Gallagher & John Squire

The release of their debut self-titled album on 1st March. Long-term friends with a mutual admiration for each other’s work, the idea of a collaboration started when John joined Liam on-stage at his biblical Knebworth shows. To me this one takes no thought, everything I have heard so far I have liked so definitelty in the basket.

Lost Demos by Linkin Park

A 14-track compilation of fully realized songs and works in progress that were recorded before and during the sessions for their landmark second album Meteora. The title includes the word ‘demos’, the first three tracks were completed during the Meteora recording sessions but were not included on the final album.

Kaiser Chiefs Easy Eighth Album
Black Crowes - Happiness Bastards

Kaiser Chiefs

Easy Eighth Album – Produced by Amir Amor (Rudimental), the album sees the Kaiser Chiefs return with a fresh and bold new sound. From the Nile Rodgers co-write of new single ‘Feeling Alright’, to the frantic ‘Beautiful Girl’, horn-laden Kaiser Chiefs throwback ‘Job Centre Shuffle’ and joyous punch in the gut that is ‘Jealousy’. I always had a love for this band, recorded and Live, always deliver.

The Black Crowes

Happiness Bastards, their 10th studio album. Some may say the project has been several tumultuous years in the making, but we argue it’s arriving at just the right time. Call it brotherly love or music destiny that brought them back together, the highly anticipated record consecrating the reunion of this legendary band just may be the thing that saves rock & roll.
